Since 2023, a tide of religious-based queerphobia has been sweeping through Namibia. Esegiel Naobeb is a Namibian religious leader – and also stepfather to a transgender woman. In this documentary, put together by Carl Collison for Beyond the Margins, Naobeb speaks about his initial heartbreak when realising his step-daughter’s gender identity, the pushback he has experienced for having a transgender child, and how it was ultimately his faith which led him to accepting her.
