Yeah, fuck Namibia to be honest. I don’t appreciate how queer people are treated here. And also when people speak on queer issues, they speak as if we’re not Namibian. Like, then why is my tax number saying something else? Why am I paying tax in your country? If you want to exclude us so much and so badly, then exclude us. Don’t sugarcoat it.
In any industry – be it beauty, be it architecture, be it finance, or whatever – you will find queer people who are doing the absolute fucking most in those industries. So, if you’re going to steer us away, then why don’t you steer us away fully? Why are you still reaping the fruits of us being and working here? So, yeah, I really don’t appreciate that.
Like, with my mom, it’s a thing of she’s okay with me, but mainly because I’m almost like the money pig of the family. Like if I can support [her], if I can do this and this, then I’m okay. But other than that, there was never anything verbal [from her, saying], “It’s okay. I love you for who you are.” Why is it that we’re always the money pig in any situation, but we can’t have rights?
Do you understand my frustration? I don’t want to be here. I need to leave … this place. I need to go somewhere else. Somewhere I’m celebrated and loved and where I have rights. So yeah, we still have a long way to go. But I’m willing to fight all that way. No matter where I am in the world. Because I love Namibia. – Jayn Aeron, 28
